Bus Driver
- Normally work 2 hours in the morning (approximately 6:30 AM to 8:30 PM) and 2 hours in the afternoon (approximately 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM)
- Salary: $22.68 per hour driving a route
- Salary: $16.50 per hour for extra trips
Bus Driver - Substitute:

Fill in when a regular driver is not available to transport students to and from school or to provide transportation for student field trips, athletic and other extra-curricular activities.

Requirements to be a school bus driver in the State of Ohio:
-
Must be at least 21 years of age.
-
At lest two years' experience driving a vehicle.

Must have or be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with a minimum of a Class B CDL, with the required endorsements of passenger, school bus and air brakes.

Pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.
-
Favorable BCI and FBI background checks results.

Driving record check with no disqualifying offenses such as:
-
OVI (Operating a vehicle while intoxicated) or DUI (Driving under the influences) within the past 10 years
-
FRA (Financial Responsibility Act) Suspension in the past 6 years
-

Pre-employment and annual physical (Ohio T8 Physical) required.

15 hours of pre-service classroom training for the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) Certification.

Minimum 12 hours training with a district On Bus Instructor (OBI), with the average being approximately 25 hours.

All school bus drivers in Ohio must be recertified every six years.

All school bus drivers in Ohio must attend an annual in-service training for 4 hours.

Here's how to get the ball rolling:
- Fill out a classified employment application and BMV release form which came be found here.
- The next step in the process, after your interview, will be to get your FBI & BCI background checks completed (at your cost).
- Next you will need to secure your CDL temporary driver's license permit (at your cost). You can do this at almost any BMV location around the state.
- Once you secure your CDL temporary permit, we will send you for a T8 physical & drug screen.
- Once we have your background checks returned and review, your T8 & drug screen results, you have your temporary permit, we can begin training.
- Training typically takes approximately 3 months, depending on your availability and ability to drive the school bus.
- We will schedule you for the Pre-Service School Bus Driver training (classroom session, 4 days, various locations) at this time.
- Once ready, you will complete the required driving exam (at your cost) for your CDL.
- After a review of all documents, training, etc. you will be issued a certificate as a school bus driver and may begin driving with us once board approved.
Additional Information:
New employees must drive for the District for one full year from the effective date of hire listed in the Board of Education minutes or they will be responsible to reimburse the District for the cost of the T8 physical, pre-employment drug testing and the Ohio Pre-Service classroom training.
After the employee is certified and approved, the District will reimburse the employee for their FBI & BCI background check, CDL temporary permit and the CDL driving exam after they have completed driving twenty (20) trips for the District. The employee must submit their original receipts to the transportation supervisor. If it takes the employee more than one time to pass their CDL driving exam, the District will only reimburse for the cost of one exam.
