Elementary Building Update

Dear Parents & Guardians,

Governor Mike DeWine recently conducted a press conference and discussed the spread of the coronavirus along with school closures here in Ohio.  Napoleon Area City Schools will NOT be in session on Monday, March 16th, 2020.  This closure will last at least three weeks. We are planning to be back in session on Monday, April 6th, 2020. All faculty and staff members will report on Monday, March 16th.

NES staff will continue to offer instructional opportunities to students during this closure.  Staff will be available on Monday, March 16th from 12:00-3:30 pm (in their homerooms) to hand out chromebooks/iPads and assignments to parents of students who did not receive them today (Friday, March 13, 2020).  Online student instructional opportunities will begin on or before March 23rd, 2020.

The Napoleon, Florida, and McClure Public Libraries will remain open and have free wifi for students and parents.  Please take advantage of this opportunity. Teachers will send paper materials home for students who do not have internet access. Please contact your child’s homeroom teacher (ASAP) by email or with a Remind message if you need paper copies.

We understand that there will be many questions from families and employees in the coming days.  We are working very hard to share answers as they become available. Many of our answers will depend on direction from outside agencies such as the Ohio Department of Education and state and local health departments. We will send updates to employees and families as we have them available.

A change of this magnitude could be upsetting for children. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has compiled a resource page that you may find helpful as you talk about this crisis with your children: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/schools-childcare/talking-with-children.html

Feel free to call or email your child’s teacher(s) or the NES office if you have any questions.

Mr. Matt Dietrich, PK-2 Principal

Mr. Adam Niese, 3-6 Principal
